Published November 25, 2009
The city of Rainsville will host its 50th annual Christmas parade Saturday, Dec. 5.
Sponsored by the Rainsville Chamber of Commerce, the parade will begin at 1 p.m. Line-up will begin at noon at Sam Ellis Drive.
"We have been looking forward to the 50th anniversary for the past couple of years," said Tim Eberhart, Director of the Rainsville Chamber of Commerce.
This year's parade grand marshal will be Wendell Elliott, the 2009 Rainsville Person of the Year.
Although there is no specific theme for the parade, Eberhart said all entries are required to be decorated in some way for Christmas.
There is still time to enter this year's parade. The deadline for entries will be Dec. 1. An entry fee of $25 will be charged to all commercial entries who are not chamber members. All horse, car, motorcycle and ATV entries will also have an entry fee.
Monetary prizes will be awarded for non-commercial floats in the amounts of $250 for first place, $175 for second place and $100 for third place. Ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third-place commercial entries.
