Section prepares for 35th Labor Day event

After three and a half decades, the Section Labor Day Celebration is bigger and better than ever.
The Town of Section will celebrate its 35th annual Labor Day Celebration on Monday, Sept. 7, at Section Park.
Sponsored by Section Pharmacy, FNB and the Town of Section, this Sand Mountain tradition promises fun for the whole family.
The opening ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a welcome from Section Mayor Bob Matthews, the raising of the American Flag by the Boy Scouts, singing of the National Anthem by Christina and Markie Haynes and an invocation by Bro. Ed Fossett.
Elvin Kennamer will lead a ceremony for Honor Flight participants and veterans.
Registration for the Toddler Walk will also begin at 9:30.
Entertainment will take place on the Section Pharmacy Stage as scheduled: Sylvania Quartet from 10:15-10:45 a.m., Tammy Toons from 10:45-11:15 a.m., Toddler Walk from 11:15 until noon; Community Voices from noon until 12:30 p.m., Surrendered Free from 12:30-1 p.m., Christina and Markie Haynes from 1-1:30 p.m., Twin Mountain Bluegrass Band from 1:30-2:15 p.m., Hannah Haynes from 2:15-2:30 p.m., Avery-Owen Fairbanks from 2:30-3 p.m., Broyles Family from 3-3:30 p.m., Melanie Varner Dance Co., 3:30-4 p.m., Lela Rice from 4-4:05 p.m., Jamie Hancock from 4:05-4:20 p.m., Shadderd from 4:20-5:45 and Scottsboro Cloggers from 6-7 p.m.
Shasta's Cheer Center will have a dance and tumbling demonstration at 11 a.m. in the park.
A number of events will be going on throughout the day.
A car show will be going on from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the park.
A silent auction is scheduled from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Items must be picked up between 3 and 3:30 p.m. All proceeds will go to Christmas Charities.
Starting at noon, there will be competition games of horseshoes and dominoes for all ages.
From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., there will be free kiddie rides in the park.
FNB will sponsor a street dance from 7-9 p.m., with Brothers and Others as the featured band. During the same time, a teen dance for ages 12-19 will be held at the basketball court in the park. The dance will close out the day's events.
