Cornerstone Christian Academy salutes veteran
Published November 20, 2009
Last Friday, Cornerstone Christian Academy held its first-ever Veterans Day program and filled the gymnasium with children, parents, grandparents, and invited veterans.
Also in attendance were four members of the Fort Payne National Guard unit.
After a Boy Scout color guard presented the flags, the smallest children — K3-K5 — sang "My Country 'Tis of Thee."
This was followed by the first grade's rendition of "I'm in the Lord's Army." Next up was the second grade, which sang "I Pledge Allegiance."
The third grade presented "Onward Christian Soldiers" and the fourth grade sand "God Bless the USA."
After sixth-grader Kinzie McEwen did a solo of "The Star-Spangled Banner," the entire sixth grade read poetry they had written, some of it about their fathers and grandfathers who served our country.
The fifth grade's contribution was the art work which adorned the walls of the gym and stage.
While everyone observed a moment of silence for our fallen heroes, Albertville's Johnny Strickland played "Taps" on his bugle. Strickland's daughter, Melissa Horsefield, is a teacher at Cornerstone.
